What can i expect.....
« on: September 12, 2005, 11:49:32 AM »
I just recently aquired a 22-250. I'm gonna start loading for it. I was looking for some bullets and came across the Berger 30gr MEF. What kind of velocities can i expect from these in a 22-250?

You really don't wanna go lighter than 40 grains with it. The 30s are for smaller cased rounds. You should be able to do 4000 fps with 40s or pretty close in a 26" barrel.

If this is your first 22-250, I would give a word to the wise: If you plan on driving yor bullets 4000+ as a routine thing, you might want to put your replacement barrel in layaway now.
Any good 52-55gr bullet @3600fps will do anything you want it to and be a lot easier on the barrel.

That's what i thought. I was just curious to what the velocities would be.....i'll more than likely use the 40gr.

Do not use Berger MEF bullets in a .22-250. The are made for slower rounds and will probibly blow up befor they get to the target at .22-250 velosities. I prefer 55 gn. bullets in the .22-250, but if you after super accuract you might try the Serria 53 gn. HP bench rest bullets. I think you`ll do better with the flat base bullets. Do not usr the super explosive bullets in the 250.
