As far as the crown goes, the slightest little nick or ding on the end of the barrel will wreak havock on accuracy. If you want to get copper fowling out I use Barnes CR-10, follow the directions and it works wonderfully.   KN

Hold On Fuzz!!!!!!!!!!!!  Don't be touchin' nothin with any file!  Leave the recrowning to a qualified gunsmith and he can do it for you while you wait for it.  Have him look at the bore while he is recrowning.

Start cleaning and using allot of patches with a good copper and lead cleaner.  I use Butch's Bore Shine Cleaner.  ALWAY clean from the breech end with the cleaning rod.  Speaking of cleaning rods, it's best to find a good, stout steel rod and plastic jag to hold the patch, or an Otis cable system.  They will not screw up the muzzle crown....but, they're jags are made of brass.  If you use any kind of copper/ bronze (brush) or aluminum rod, the solvents in the cleaner will attack the components and you'll never get a clean patch out (color of the patch will show blue-green).  If you've never worried about cleaning before, I'm sure that's the problem.  The usual Hoppe's # Nine Solvent is fine for a powder solvent but doesn't do the job on the copper.  Final word and I will shut-up.

DO NOT leave these solvents in the barrel bore overnight thinking you'll get the last bit of copper and lead out!  All you will do is ruin the barrel by etching the bore finish, that will start in a continuous cleaning the rest of your life.  Good Luck with that ole' Marlin!
