my black powder boar from Langley ranch
« on: September 28, 2005, 02:53:59 PM »
Just returned from the langley ranch on the best hunt ive ever had. me and my daughter  jasmine went down there today. jasmine shot a nice barr hog at 50 yards  with a  marlin 30-30 170 core lokts dropped him in his tracks
I was using my CVA hunter eclipse 50 caliber loaded with 2 pellets of 777 and a 240 gr saboted tc cheapshot bullet using reminton premier 209 primers  after jasmines hunt  i went dow to the gulley  where joe made me a ground blind  i had the go ahead on a cull hog that was injured and i was after a big mean boar after they started the drive  the big hog came to with in feet of me to the left of me, im a left handed shooter  and was chopping as he ran by me  my hair was standing on my neck  and  i was shaking terrible  i finally calmed down when i spotted the cull hog wallowing in a wallow  as he walked off  i hit him right in the shoulders penetrating all the way through  he never took a step. after we dealt with this hog  i went to a tripod stand  and waited about 30 minutes when at least 4 groups of 10 ran by me  i finally spotted the bog boar  that had my heart he was running right towards the stand stopped at a slightly quartering angle  i squeezed the trigger  and he hit the ground.  i made sure he was gone and looked  at the entrance wound  the bullet went in the left side breaking ribs smashing lungs and breaking the offside left leg bone ending up protrudingon the offside shoulder skin. i was really happy with this perfomance as it expended all of its energy in the hog made the insides look like confetti  this was an awesome hunt http://www.hunt101.com/img/328932jpg

Nice lookin' boar Howie!

How much did that one weigh in at?

i shot him in the gulley  i wasnorth of the feeder in a make shift ground blind when his big brother ran right at me then veered off course by  about 6 feet i was shaking pretty bad after that  Joe said he is the biggest black powderboar killed there so far. the funny thing is  i seen 3 bigger boars  but didnt want to take a risky shot at best  i shot him out of the stand up on the hill  i had to get off the ground my legs were to wobbly after seeing jasmine kill her 120 boar  and that near miss from the hog. ill be going back soon  for a bow hunt . i picked this one cause his temper was really nasty when he came in chopping his teeth and all   i hit him as he was running in towards me  pretty awesome hunt we ended up shooting 3 pigs 3 shots all dropped in there tracks with shoulder shots.  ive never done that feet yet usually they run unless ya hit them in the head or neck

great story!  I'm thinking of a hog hunt in Ark. in January, this is the kind of thing that will convince me to go!
