hows those 445 woods hammers comming along

anyone having problems with the rechamber?is the reamer still cutting good?who has the reamer now?

just wondered

shot my 445 Contender today.no time for a range session yet but a fired it off in the back yard today with a good measure of 296 under a 210gr and a 240gr Remington HP boolit.the recoil is nice and sharp.it makes the recoil from a 44mag feel like a pop gun.next time will be at the range :grin:

Its a lot more powerful than the 44 mag. We want to see some chrono results with the contender.Lik2hunt has the reamer now,and we'll do his tomorrow,since he got in off his route so late this evening.  Digger

Gonna ream mine today like Digger said and have it out in the mail tomorrow to the next person. That's a ream on Friday and in the mail on Saturday. Unfortunately all my receivers are at H&R now for barrels and trigger jobs, may get to shoot some through the chrony soon tho, huh Digger? :wink:

Another 445 is ready to wreck havoc on wildlife,if he just had the reciever back. One set of hands turning the T handle and another set holding the ejector down,and in 5 minutes the job was completed. I'm wondering were the pilot bearing was . It was not in the box,but every thing came off super well.  Digger

Yep, went pretty smooth once I located a T-handle that would work. My ejector on my barrel only lacked approx. 1/16 of an inch being flush to the barrel chamber so that's why I chose not to remove it. Others may be different. The barrel I used came from an NK gun so the newer ones may require the ejector to be removed.
Jeff, the floating pilot bearing mentioned by Digger, was it ever there? I talked to Varminter and he said he didn't have it for his either. I assume it was not included form the beginning right?
Anyway, as soon as my receivers get back from H&R, I'm good to go :grin: . I'm gonna see if it will fit the SB-2 I have left here tho first, may get to chrony some loads soon.
Reamer will go out to Nixter in the mail in the morning.  :D

There was no piolet bearing when I recieved it from Jeff223, I figured it was one of the solid reamers with no bearing. Worked fine for me1.5 - 2 in groups Havent sent any over the croney yet

there was a pilot bearing when i got the reamer new but it wouldnt work in my Contender barrel.after talking to my gun smith friend he said for me to just take the bearing off the reamer.since we were rechambering  44mag barrels and were only making the chamber alittle longer for the 445sm  the pilot bearing wasnt needed.if we were chambering a new barrel without a chamber at all we would want a pilot bearing.we are just using this reamer as a solid pilot reamer for this project.sorry i didnt post about this before :grin:

ok........you guys got my curiosity up.  Ive looked up this 445 in 2 different reloading books and cant find it.  What are you guys up to??  Sounds kewl. :grin:

Look in the handguns section of those books.  Originally designed by Dan Wesson as a sillouette round.

We handi-haulics area creative bunch ...  :lol:

Missed the postman yesterday, I was "busy" when he knocked. He is quick and when I finally got to the door, he and his truck were well on thier way...


He should be here with the reamer by Noon local time.

T-handle? I need a T-handle? Arrgh :eek:

Quick, where could I find one? I could go to a few local smiths or find a machine shop... Would a t-handle from a tap set work?

I don't want to hold up the reamer...

How did I overlook this?

I used a box-end wrench for mine ... 3/8's I think.  Ya don't need no stinkin' t-handle ...  :)

Whew, thanks guys.

Would hate to hold up the reamer for my oversight.

I have 3/8ths box end wrench and might be able to scrounge up a tap wrench from my Dad's tool box. (his "work"  tool box that I inherited when he passed away)

Reamer update

I caught the Postman today.

Reamer is at the office still. I signed the card from yesterday and he will re-deliver Wednesday.

Previous obligations prevent me from getting it from the P.O. today.

I signed the card allowing him to deliver it without my sig.
