i am  thinking of putting a shot gun scope or a hand gun scope on my 336 30/30...i really like the looks of the short length scope on a lever gun.
i am just wondering if anyone else has done this or just looking for some thoughts and sugestion on the idea

Absolutely capitail idea! I have a 1.75x5x20mm on my 336. It's definately the way to go. Anything more that 4 or 5x is a waste on a short range rifle. Field of view is far more important than magnification.

I have used the Leupold 1-4X20mm scope on my leverguns and they work great. One peoblem with the shotgun scopes is that the paralax is set at 75 yards. I would rather a rifle scope.

My .30-30 and .375Win Marlins have used Leupold M8 4x scopes on them, which work very well.  But my favorite is the Leupold VX-II 2-7x33 on my .45-70.  I crank it up to 7x for load development, then crank it back down for hunting.

Hello there. I picked up a Simmons shotgun scope variable 1.5 - 5 power magnification. Brand new I don't think that it was much more than 60 dollars. Nice bright glass with a 32 mm objective lense. I also have a couple of M8-4x leupolds whick would also fith the bill nicely. One of them sits on my M96 Swede Mauser 6.5mm * 55mm that left the factory in 1905 and is deadly on Mulies and Whitetails and even the odd Moose. Regards

Just got a new 336 30-30...Had a Simmons shotgun scope on hand, so I put it on. It shoots good and seems to hold it's zero OK...
Had it a long time so I can't recall for sure but believe it is a 2.5X20..
