In 1975 I bought my first Rem 700LH in 270win, since that time I've used it to bring down at least one Muley a year and a number of elk and coyotes.  I've tried most brands, most weights, a number of powders and primers.  I've always come back to the Sierra 130 BTS., with between 58-60 gr. of H-4831, with CCI-200 or 250's depending on the temp. at the time of the hunt. The load gives me approx 3100fps (freezing or below continuous) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE THESE NUMBERS, consult your manual !!!!!!
I know that many will say that this is light for an elk but although it may be, no animal has every gone more than a few yards.  I'm a firm believer in initial shock.  This bullet has alway entered the chest cavity, taken a lung and either the top or bottom of the heart. Shot placement.... period.  I've seen mule deer jump 10' in the air and run 25yrds with no heart, they just don't know their dead.
It's been around a very long time, but it's still accurate, flat shooting and has a lite recoil.  If I set my scope about 3" high at 100yrds my point blank range is nearly 350 yrds.  I  don't know about you, but 90% of the animals I shoot are within this distance. What else could I ask.
