O ring under forearm

Should the forarm be free floating except where it meet the actoin and the forarm screw? I put a o ring in the forarm the other day but the wood is touching the barrel a little on the left side. It would shoot under an inch before I did this, but have not got to shoot it yet with the o ring been woking 12 hour shifts.

If it shot under an inch I don't know why you would mess with it.  Larry

Some rifles need the o-ring, some dont.  My 45-70 and the boy's 30-30 didn't need it.   But my .22 hornet gained alot by it.

If it shot under an inch before, I would have left well enough alone.

man i made the same mistake. got 1" groups and then put one on and now i can't get the bloodly thing back to 1" without.
