Sweet!

Nice job on the "tang" sight too.  Is that a ramrod underneath the barrel?  I've never seen one of the Shikari rifles unless I walked by one at a show and didn't recognize it as an H&R.

I have a topper 158 in 22 Jet that has the swept-back hammer too.  I like it but I can see why they went to the new style hammer--it's much more controllable while de-cocking especially for a younger shooter.  I read a post here by a guy that sells rifles for a living and his comment was that the vast majority of the NEF rifles are purchased by the parents of young boys (10 or so) as their first rifle.

How about another shot that gives a better look at the front of the refle?

One of my favorite H&Rs. Both of my Shikari 45-70s came with a 28 in barrel. Did not know there was a 24 incher. I too like the swept hammer, but it is difficult to get a hammer extension to fit.

I've got a hammer extention on my jet ya got to put it on so it sticks out on the left side so it doesn't hit the break lever.

Mike;
I remember you mentioned that when you were visiting last spring. I'll have to try that. Thank you.

And, just think, that long barrel has regular rifling (pre-micro). And it could be fitted to a SB-2 action. Then a shooter would have the best of both worlds!

dodd3, great looking rifle, thanks for the pix.

I was always under the impression the the Shikari was a variant of the Trapdoor rifles H&R produced. I see now that I was wrong.

I would really like one of the Trapdoor H&R's but $$ and other projects and commitments get in the way.
