clean or dirty

I am wondering what yall have found works best. Does your gun shoot best dirty or clean I have broken in my barrel and I have heard some people get better groups with a clean vs dirty. If dirty how many shots does it take for it to settle after cleaning. I know that its only the first shot that counts and I am trying to decide if I should clean the gun and put it into action or if I should shoot a fowling shot after cleaning or if I should clean after x# of shots. ok I think im nit picking

I use BreakFree to clean most of my guns, and I try to make sure it's completely dry when I'm done. Takes maybe two shots to get it back on track. If I don't shoot it that much in a single outing at the range, I lube the action and run a dry snake down the barrel, and that keeps it the same for the next trip out. I also clean the chamber thoroughly to keep shells from sticking; works well now that it's broke in.

All my handies shoot better dirty. I probably have over a 100 rounds thru my max with out cleaning the bore and I've seen no change in accuracy. I do clean them just not always the bore. Not the sme with my bolt guns thou.

Only you and your rifle can decide this question. You have to test it. Put it up clean and see where it puts the first cold shot. Do this three or four times (the more the better) then do the same test again, except put it away dirty and see where the cold shot goes. You rifle will tell you what it prefers, no one here can say.

JPH 45 got to the point-- it don't matter what caliber, you need to shoot it to find out.
