I have too many 30-06 rifles in my safe but no 375H&H is it possible to replace the barrel on one of the Rem mdl700 to 375 and what else needs to be done? Cost effective or not???

Probably not, because of action length the OAL of the 30-06 is 3.340 max. and the OAL of the .375 h&h is 3.600, also the bolt face would have to be opened up from .473 to .532, I am sure there are some other issues also but those would be 2 of the ones to look at b-4 thinking about it. :D   JIM

Actually Remington only makes two action lengths, short and long. The long works with .30-06 up to the full length H&H and super mag cases. So think it might be a matter of rebarreling and fixing the magazine box to hold and feed the longer and fatter rounds. Should be a simple job for a gunsmith I think. Oh and opening the bolt face too.

thank you both for your replys....I knew about just 2 action lenghts.
My reason for doing it..if I do...is to have a 375H&H at a cost considerable less than buying a new rifle. But if it's going to run me within 150-200 of a new one I will just trade/sell the '06  for a 375H&H

Unless you can do the work yourself it wouldn't surprise me if you ended up with more not less money in it to convert rather than trading.

Having not attempted this conversion I would still say it is doable but inadvisable. Much better to swap a 30-06 for a 375..  The changes are few but expensive and opening the bolt on a m700 has to include accomadation for an extractor. The Sako/M16 extractor is the usual although the remington can be replaced.  Bolts are likely restricted parts so simple swapping is more difficult. It would likely entail several hundred dollars for the conversion.  Much more than a the difference in a trade..
