.308 pistol
« on: September 05, 2005, 07:26:57 AM »
i was wondering if anyone had a load that they liked to use for the encore .308 pistol.  i have loaded some 130 grn hornady sp. with varget powder.  i think the powder is not burning fast enough.  i was wanting to use the gun for deer hunting and have debated droping to a nosler 125grn ballistic tip, or the hornady 110 grn sp.  any ideas or suggestions?

For the shorter length barrels I like AA2495. I can attest to 40.3g behind a 168g Nosler CC BTHP is between .5-.7" at 100 meters. For the 130's I don't have a specific load but 42.3-46.5 is listed. You might also do well with H335 41.8-47.0.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I just picked up a 308 15" barrel last fall and am playing with some loads now for deer. I have settled on a Sierra Game King 150gr spitzer. I am loading 44gr of IMR 4064 and playing with the seating depth now. It seems to like a little jump because i am out to 20/1000. I believe from the manual i can go as high as 48gr max, but may just stick with the current if i can keep the groups within a couple inches.

by the way, Nosler has loads for the 15" 308 in bullets of 125gr, 150/155gr and 165gr.

I pulled out the nosler manual for the 308 Win 125gr out of a 15"

RL7 = 41.5gr max
Viht N135 = 47gr max
AA2460 = 48gr max
IMR4320 = 48gr max
W748 = 51.5gr max (indicated as most accurate)

good luck

I tried several powders and bullet combo's for .308 15" barrel.  The best Combo for me is 43.5gr H4895, Federal G210M primers, PMC brass, and 150gr hornady BTSP interbonds.
Now I have another barrel to work up a load for and I will post and let you know where I end up.

I worked up a load using 50 gr. of H 335  at  with 125 gr. serria with the muzzle velocityof 3156 fps. hurt's a little, got this load out of a serria manual that was made in 1978, another load i got with  50 gr. of w 748 at the velocity of 2842 fps both loads are very accurate.

125 and 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips shoot like match bullets through my TC .308 tube. I use Varget and load one grain below maximum (46 and 49 grains, respectively) in R-P brass using Federal primers. Look up the Hodgdon info and work up because of differences in case capacities and barrels. These shot so well, Ive loaded other bullets using Varget and all were accurate even though the 180 grain bullets seemed a little slow---buy only relative to the 125 gr screamers. That .308 Encore pistol is a dynamite hunting weapon. :grin: pg
