Barrel tapers and finish
« on: September 28, 2005, 06:18:40 AM »
I got my new barrels and noticed the 223, 24" bull (Ultra) has a more polished finish to it.  The 357mag and my original 243 22" Bull, both stamped as handi rifles; both have a rougher, spun finish.  Is this a common difference with the "ultra" barrels compared to the "handi rifle" barrels.

Also, the taper on the 357 is not too differnet from the bull barrels.  I havent been able to measure them yet.

I recently just got my 25-06 barrel back...and it isn't marked Ultra...just handi rifle...so I just called and spoke with Gordan at NEF...he says they are reducing the amount of stampings on the new barrels...and they all will eventually say just Handi Rifle on it...perhaps they are looking to cut cost on the finishes and roll stampings?Mine isn't polished as nice as my original...but the taper is the same...
