Single six vs Berretta
« on: January 07, 2006, 03:39:21 AM »
:? Hello everyone this is my first time here and I love this site. Now for the choice at hand, I would like to get YOUR opion on which is A: more fun to shoot. B: more accurate and C: is an all around good gun.

I plan to target shoot with this 22 lr. and plan to add a 2x20mm scope. So I am looking at a Beretta U22 Neos 6" barrel and a single six Ruger % 3/8" Barrle. My only other choice is by Excel Arms which is a 17HMR autoloader. I currently have a Ruger MK1 and love it.

I have held both and like both and that is why this is hard for me to decide.

Can anyone help me with my choice???

Choices are Ruger Single Six and the Beretta Neos.  Hmm.  that's apples and oranges there.  If you're gonna use this for target shooting as you mention, why not buy an actual target pistol?  Anyways, out of those two,  well three actually, for a target handgun, none of the above.  If you want a target gun, buy an acyual target gun.  Kinda like if you want a traget rifle, you don't decide between an AR-7 and a Henry pump action .22 - you buy an actual trget gun.
Now I do think that adding your scope to the Neos would be easier and an overall nicer pkg than doing so to the Single Six.

( can't believe I said that, I don't care for Berettas much but love Ruger SA's)

Last year I bought the Neos, but the one with the shorter barrel and topped it with a red dot scope.  I found it really tough to shoot accurately...the shorter version being too light for me to hold steady and the trigger was HORRIBLE!  I ended up selling it to one of my buddies and ended up buying a Ruger Single Six with adj. sights, 5.5" barrel, and stainless.
I did the "poor boy trigger job" and ended up with the sweetest trigger of any firearm I own.  The gun is very accurate for me and a whole lot more fun than the Neos was...  Take the "fun factor" with a grain of salt since I really like single action revolvers.

Good Luck,

Jim

There are a number of choices here. If you want a serious target gun, neither one qualifies. If you want a real target gun, consider the Ruger MKIII or the S&W Model 41. Each can easily take a scope base and attach a scope of your choice.
If you are more interested in an informal target gun, a plinker, then the Beretta may work, but the Ruger may be more difficult to scope than you want. If you want a Ruger Single Six with a scope, consider the Single Six Hunter. It is available in .22 and 17 cal, with dual cylinders, and it comes with a barrel scope mount system.
