10 Gauge Shooters: Who has bought extra barrels?
« on: September 18, 2005, 12:23:47 PM »
Those of you who have SB2 10 Gauge Pardner's, have any of you bought extra barrels via the barrel exchange program?

If so, what barrels did you get?

Did you run into any problems?

Can you share any insights?

Does NEF impose any restrictions on those shotguns regarding the barrel exchange program?

Thank you for any comments.

As far as i'm aware the only barrels you can get fitted to the 10 guage frame are the 10 guage barrels and the 12 guage ultra slug barrel.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

You're probably right Varminter.

Was looking at my YR2005 NEF catalog and ALL 10 gauge guns have a "SB2" designation in their model/stock numbers.  Very misleading!

That is the SB2 shotgun receiver...Can only mount 10GA barrels and the 12GA Ultra Slug barrels...

I sent my 10GA SB2 receiver, stock and forearm back to H&R and had them fit a 12GA Ultra Slugger barrel...I have had no problems...The gun was shipped back to my house and it was fitted perfectly and the lock up is tight as a bank vault.  If you want to send yours back I would have no hesitations about it if I were you.

Started with a 32 inch Mod choke waterfowl barrel. Sent frame back for 24 inch turkey barrel. It had the stock H&R full choke in it. Wasn't real impressed with the factory choke and purchased a Gobblin' Thunder .690 constriction choke. Great patterns now.

Turn around was quick and lock-up was excellent.

Was there a specific concern you had?

I love my Big Ten!!

I had a 23" imp. cyl. 10 ga barrel. with rifle sights fitted a couple of years ago with never a problem and i just got my 24" 12 guage  ultra slug barrel fitted a couple of months ago and i just got to shoot it over the weekend and its a fine shooter. I tried the rem 385 gr corelocks , the federal with barnes expander and the 385grain winchesters in both 23/4 and 3". They all shot well with the best groups being the winchester 2 3/4" nosler part/385 grain bullet at 1900 fps.
