Can anyone tell me about my cannon?
« on: October 04, 2005, 11:21:14 AM »
Hi.. I recently purchased this cannon. it has a 22" barrel, 1" bore, and it is fired by percussion cap. There is a similar one on the Cannon-mania web site in the Mystery Cannon section, number Q-49. I am guessing it was from a set of plans in a book or magazine but have been unable to find anything. If not, it sure looks like the 2 cannons ( mine and the one on the cannon mania web site) were made by the same person.  Pictures are here :   http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/firemandk@sbcglobal.net/album?.dir=b4bf&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos    Thanks! WELCOME to the board!

I think your thinking is right.  All of the operations (except for the wheels) are basic cut/weld/drill/thread types of fabrications.

Any pictures of this one in action?  Will it set off car alarms at 100 meters?

I'm waiting to find out a little bit more about it . I need to buy caps and powder, and I am tempted to add a riveted top plate to the rails and a shield for a more artillery look. It needs a few parts replaced and a once over . The Barrel wall is 1/2" at the muzzle, and about 3/4 I am guessing  at the breach. I'm wondering if it could fire a projectile ???? Dan

Of course.  How safe it would be will depend on the materials, the dimensions, the powder charge and the projectile weight.  Is the bore diameter exactly 1.000" or slightly larger or smaller?
