New scope for an AR????
« on: February 22, 2003, 05:32:44 PM »
I have replaced my bolt gun with a flat top AR-15. The reason I did this is the difficulties in having a follow-up or second shot on coyote's. Currently I have a Burris 6-18 40mm scope that came off the bolt gun I sold to get the funds for the AR. This scope I feel is inadequte for close moving game.
I have approx. $475.00 to spend. I live in the Northeast and most areas offer 200yds or less shots, many of them with in 50 yds.
Do you have any suggestions? what scope do you use? What would you buy?
The more I meet new people, the more I like my dog.

I just put a Burris 4x compact on my 20" flattop. Works really nice for what you're describing and is dimensionally right for the rifle.

My 2 cents, worth every penny

My Colt has a Leupold 4.5 X 14 with the AO. If you look around you should be able to get one for close to what you got.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Pluto,I just put a Pentax 2x8 on my 06. I've only used it at the range once so far. It has a good field of view on 2x and is clear and bright. I'm glad to see your shots are close in since I'm wanting to bust some yotes here in West Virginia and was wondering if you could get close too them. I'm moving my 1.5x6 Burris to my .243. It's clear and gathers light really well on low power. I'd recommend either one for your purpose. Both are well below you ceiling price. SWFA has Pentax scopes on sale. Dave
