scope s/u for Hunters Pistol?
« on: October 10, 2005, 10:45:25 AM »
I am using a Weaver T24 with 1/2" dot. Great scope for silhouette, (smallbore rifle anyway).
My question is.... when mounted on my TC the scope overhangs the barrel a couple of inches. Should I be concerned about muzzle blast on the objective of the scope? I was thinking of trying Ken Lights HP scope mount (going for the 1.5" max. height).
I am shooting Smallbore so I'm not as concerned as I would be if it were Bigbore.
Does anyone have experience with Ken Lights scope base for Hunters Pistol? Should I worry about the muzzle blast from a rimfire? Opinions please........

Thanks
Bill

I use a scope longer than the muzzle on my Smallbore HP and HP setups.  The sunshade overhangs the end of the barrel by a good 4 inches.  For the smallbore it is no problem.  In the HP I shoot a 270REN and there is a little powder burn on the sunshade but nothing too extreem.  You could always use a little tape on the underside and replace it when it gets worn but for smallbore it shouldn't be any problem at all.  I have my scopes set in see through rings to give them a little height but the Ken Light HP set up is a nice set up.  Hope this helps.

I've used a Tasco World Class scope on a 10" rimfire barrel without ANY ill effects to the scope or it's AO.  I wouldn't give it much of a thought...other than possibly cosmetic powder residue.

Thanks guys. I'll try not to be too concerned about it then. I'm still thinking of trying the Ken Light HP base. Right now I'm waiting for BKL to respond to my email about there base and rings for the TC. I use there stuff on my SB Silhouette rifle (Cooper 57M) and like it a lot.
I'm going to try to achieve the 1.5" max for comfort (lowering the trigger hand).

Thanks again
