How do you rate a pentax scope? I ordered one from SWFA and it is back ordered. I like the looks of the Elite 4200 1.5 x 6 but they only have 3" of eye relief. I ordered a 1.75 x 6 Pentax because I alrready have a Burris Signature 1.5 X 6 and really like it. I don't know if the Pentax is a better scope but SWFA has them on sale at a great price so I ordered one.

Like everything else, it depends on the actual product line. Leupold has lines from VX1 to VX2 to Vari-X III to LPS, and whole bunch of other lines in the middle. Prices, and quality, therefore ranges accordingly.

The top of the line Pentax scopes use very high quality glass. However, I would not say that they are much better, if at all, than the Elite 4200s.

Like you, my only complaint about the Elite 4200s is their very short eye relief. I wish they were at least 4". The Leupold Vari-X IIIs have some of the longest eye reliefs out there!

Zachary, Thanks for the reply. The Pentax scope I ordered was a 1.75x6 Lightseeker. I changed the order to a Pentax 2x8 Lightseeker. The folks at SWFA are very easy to deal with. They are pleasant,knowledgeable,and willing to please. I got a great price too.

I've read your comments and Greaybeard's on there's no free lunch on optics.I figure there could be a reason Pentax scopes are more expensive than Burris' and at those prices why not go for one? One note on Burris scopes,I like the Posi-lock feature.I'll damage the scope before I knock it off and I'm a clutz in the woods. I don't think a scope should need the feature to hold a zero from just shooting the firearm but it's good insurance for a clutz. :wink:

I don't know about that. I don't like the posi-lock feature. I think that it's "more show than go." I own several Burris scopes, but NONE with the posi-lock feature - NEVER had a problem with any of them.

Today was the first use of my Pentax 2x8 Lightseeker. I bore sighted it here at home and shot first at 50 yds. I checked for parallax movement from my rest and had a little. Not enough to cause concern for a hunting scope. Most scope makers admit to some parallax on a scope set at 100 yds or more. Checked at 100,200,and 300 yds and noticed none. This scope has 1/3 moa adjustment so it takes a little getting used to for us that are used to 1/4 moa adjustments. It seems on par with my Burris Signature as far as brightness and clarity. (I'm very pleased with both) My shooting was not consistant as for accuracy. (as the norm) I did get one three shot clover leaf group. One group before that had two shots into a figure eight group with the third a called flyer. When adjusting elevation and windage at the same time one seemed to affect the other some. This is the way my Burris seems to do but it has 1/2 moa adjustments. Maybe the coarse adjustments are more prone to do this. Since this is not a target scope I'm not unhappy with this. Once I get my scope set I leave it alone. I'd recommend this scope at this time. I'll know more in a couple of hunting seasons. I hope this info helps. Dave

In the real world the eye relief of the Bushnell Elite 1.5-6 is closer to 3.5". Just measured it on the one we have here. That was at 3X which is pretty much a middle ground power setting.

Unless you are shooting large magnum rounds that really should be plenty. It is on Mrs. GB's Remington Model 7 in 7-08 and is plenty adequate for her on that rifle.
