A Hit or a Miss????

1st time to see eveyrthing I guess.... This was from the AR state match on Saturday standard rifle.

IMO -- supported by rule 14.4 -- that's a miss.

If one or both feet are moved off the pad AND CONTACT ANOTHER SURFACE it's a hit. That animal is still completely held up by the pad, including the front of the 'foot'. (If the nose of the animal had come to rest on the rail, I'd call it a hit since, except for the rail's intervention, it would have fallen. But this one didn't leave the pad.)

If it was an actual pad ( higher than the rail)  and either foot front or back is completely off the pad it is a hit.  Don

Congratulations!  I've yet to see this pose before though I've seen the 'Hog Charge' pig turned face on.  Maybe you'll want to call this a 'Rooter"

Wished I'd had a camera Saturday.  I had a 'Pecker', i.e. chicken with the beak on the rail, followed by two slightly turned chickens.  I reserve the right to name multiple turned chicken targets a 'Flock' and the shooting that produced it is therefore 'Flock Shooting.'

I'd give it a 0.8 for artistic merit however it's "0" in silhouette. It's still supported by the pad. ( a 180 twist, nose stand is worth a 0.99 )

That has to be a hit.  I would say it was knocked over and off it's feet.  

We've all seen hits where the animal is laying on it's side on the pad.  Those are considered hits.  Even if the foot side of the animal are on the pad.

I'd of scored it as a hit.

Yo Luchisimo,

Great shooting at the Avenal, CA Club Championships this past weekend.  A little birdy told me all about some mighty fine firing at falling fur and feathers.  A 29 going into turkeys sure sounded nice on Saturday.  That "premature" celebration will get you every time though.  Still, a 35 is nothing to sneeze at followed by a 34 on Sunday in SB.  Six stinking turkeys, oh the pain, oh the pain of it all.

Back to the "feeding" pig.  Lad, that would certainly be a miss.  The porice predilection for eating does not qualify for a hit  :-D

       That little piggy would not even give you any joy in another hemisphere. Down here "Down Under"the rule book says"Any shot which does not knock the proper silhouette over or from its stand will be scored a miss.",so I guess it won't score anywhere.

The picture really does not do justice.  I was at the match and asked, along with Troy Lawton, Robert Massey and a few others to determine if it was a hit or miss.  Even through a spotting scope, the pig was NOT off of the pad.  You can see the bullet hit squarely in the middle of the pad with the pig leaning over.  What you cannot see from the angle of the picture is that NO part of the pig is off of the pad.  Daylight could clearly be seen between the nose of the pig and the rail itself; therefore, it is a miss and was properly verified by a down-range scrutiny.

It was my responsibility at the Mid South Classic to make the down-range scrutiny that Mr. McLemore referred to previously. The target, as RamSlammer has noted, was neither knocked over or knocked from it's stand and was ruled a miss. A target lying on it's side is obviously a hit since it has been knocked over. It makes no difference whether it is resting on the pad or the rail once it has been knocked down.

That is one of the best misses I have ever seen.  I have seen that with a chicken but not a pig.
