I found a Savage 110(pre accutrigger) in .30-06 at a local pawn shop for $269.00

Fairly decent condition, a few small rust spots on the receiver near the barrel nut. Stock's good and bore looked ok(just dirty).

Should I pick it up? I wasn't wanting a .30-06 but if the price is right.....

The price seems high to me. I picked up a new 110 in .270 last year at Walmart. It was a package gun with simmons scope and new was $250. I'm thinking you can get a new Stevens for about that price.

I agree with victorcharlie. Bass pro ran the stevens 270 or 30.06 for $199 a month ago. I would get a new stevens.

ah yes, but the stevens is a plastic stock... This was walnut. Fair amount of price diff between pla... i mean "synthetic" stock and walnut, if i'm not mistaken.

If you want, you can replace the plastic of the Stevens with a Sav. 110 wooden take-off. And you'd have a new 110 instead of used 110. Same action. I camo'ed my cheap plastic for a lightweight, all weather every day rifle.
By the way, my Stevens 200 ($199) is a shooting machine.

If a pre accutrigger, I would go for a new 200 instead. Hav'nt heard of one not shootin yet. Mine in 25-06 holds dime size groups at 100 with fac. ammo.

I might actually show it to the public. My neighbor saw the paint job and assumed it was purchased like that. Of course, he didn't say he liked it . . .

So if you see it, be kind. I will try to get the wife's help.
I bought a 1" Packmayr for it yesterday so I will have to trim the stock. Sure hate to waste time and money fixing up the plastic stock instead of wood, but it is so light and handy to carry.

Correct advice given above. If it is Accutrigger, get the used Savage. If pre-Accutrigger, try a Stevens.

Price ain't great but not that bad when compared to the prices charged in this locale. I suspect it is a 110E with the hardwood stock (package gun which normally comes with a scope). If the rust spots are surface only and not completely through, they can be touched up and it could well be a shooter even if it is slightly in the rough. I picked up the same rifle which in this case had some very shallow surface rust on the barrel (it had probably sat in a hard case) and was not all that noticeable when "buffed". As in your case I did not need a 30-06 but this one sang and crooned to me as I walked by the rack, it has turned out to be one of the best shooters I have and is very mellow in the recoil department.

I paid $150 for my last pre-110, wooden Savage. Spent another $100, re-barreled it to 6.5X55.

That price is a bit high, and you will never kneo the history of that rifle. was it shot 100 times or 10000 times?
