Just some general comments about the 308 caliber load. I bot my first 308 cal winchester when I was 17, I am now 50 and still have the gun and it still is an amazingly accurate rifle when the right load is shot out of it.
The gun is actually more accurate than the shooter (me).
I have found that, in general, a 150gr bullet is the most accurate bullet to shoot. The 165gr are OK and the 180gr are only good for fishing sinkers, and only when you are out of actualy sinkers, and rocks are not available.
I have had some pretty good luck with the 110 grain Hornady v-max with the IMR4198 powder. These are lighter recoil loads and good for small stuff like groundhogs and such that you want to eliminate, and don't care what you end up with.
For my Winchester, the most accurate load is 43 grains of Varget under a Serria 150gr gameking boatail using winchester large rifle primers. I use the Lee Collett die for my loads. I do believe this die is a prime reason for the accuracy of my reloads. The Collet die does not stretch the brass load after load. I also use once fired military brass, cleaned and with the primer pocked de-crimped.
I am rambling here, but needless to say, my point is stick with the 150 grain bullet and work with different powders to find what your gun likes. This is from my experience and from reading other 308 shooter\re-loaders. I'm sure there are exceptions, but not all that many.
