DW 744 shooting high
« on: October 11, 2005, 07:52:29 PM »
I recently bought a 744 with the short under lug and vented rib 6" barrel.  The gun shoots fine, except it is very high with Win factory 240 gr.  The rear sight has bottomed out, so I can't lower it anymore.  Tomorrow I am going to try it with a full lug shroud, just to see if that may be the problem.

It's a Monson SB005XXX and the rear sight has allen screw adjustments.  I also have a SB010XXX 744 with the Hunter pack, but it has slotted screw adjustments for the rear sight and shoots to POA with plenty of daylight under the rear sight.

Any suggestions?

You should be able to get a taller front sight.  There is a small allen screw between the muzzle and front sight that needs to be loosened before you take out the front sight.

7br,

I have two or three extra front sights, but they're all the same height.  I also checked at Brownell's and they're the same height as factory.

I tried another barrel shroud the other day and it was shooting about the same as the original.

I had an old patridge style sight for my 722 which was about 1/3 of the height as my old .41 sights, so I know they made them in different heights.  I am not sure if CZ would have any in stock.  I had a set of four that I just sold on ebay.  I only saw model 15 sights on the numrich web site.  Might post on the trading post and see if anyone has one.
