Those of you who love custom knives probably have already heard the news, but I thought I'd put it in here, just in case. Buster Warenski, the great Utah knifemaker died of a heart attack not long ago. One of the GREAT art knife makers of all time, he's survived by his wife Julie; who is one of the GREAT knife engravers of all time. I was talking today to the equally well known custom knifemaker D'Alton Holder( maker's mark... d'holder), who was a personal friend of Busters, who said that Buster was a four pack of smokes a day guy. Makes me glad I quit a couple of years ago, because I wan't that far behind that. Some of his knives took him years to build, and the final product was almost literally unbelievable in terms of design and absolute mastery of his craft. His wife Julie turned many of his greatest works into pure masterpieces. I will miss opening a copy of Blade, or the Knife Annual, and not seeing his works there, except perhaps in retrospect. He leaves a big hole in our world of knifecraft. God Bless.
