Hi fellas,  I've been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks now, and I fianally decided to share with everyone my current project.  I have aquired an Ultra Hunter in .25-06 and have done a few things to it.  First, was to treat the barrel with a Tubb Final Finish kit as per instructions.  Second, I bedded the forearm with as little stress on the barrel as I could manage.  Third, I bedded the scope mount to the barrel.

Now if the weather will hold out, I will let everyone know how it does on Monday.  I'm hoping with the right handload I can get less than 1/2" groups.   I guess we will see.  My goal is to make a 1250 yard shot on a milk jug.   It is a shot that I have made regularly with a custom M700 in 6.5-06 AI.   I think it will be more of a challenge with the little H&R.

Welcome to the forum. Pull up a chair and stay awhile.

If you make that shot please be sure to let us know. And a range report is also a must.

Didn't get to shoot the Ultra,  very bad conditions all weekend.   Thanks for the welcome guys.  Datil,  This is my 5th Handi.   I've had a .223,  .243, 12ga Ultra Slug, and a 10 ga Turkey.  That .223 has been around for a long time, I guess about 10 years now.  The slug gun and the 10 ga have been traded for things that don't hurt so bad.

Why don't you just unscrew the cap off the milk jug. That will save time and money, and you will probably not be crying over spilled milk!

 Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Sounds like a lofty goal for your .25-06 Handi rifle. Good luck!

Hi BigE!  Welcome.

I'm an occasional poster but frequent reader who's had fun with the NEF's as well.

When you've set your rifle up for long range shooting, could you also post the details of the scope and mount that you're using..?

I had to add 20 minutes of lift to the back of my mount for the scope to reach 1000 yards on my Savage 308.  I'm curious what you've experienced with the 25-06.
Just my Awf Hand comments...

On both of my Rem 700's, I use the Leupold long range mount.  With the 6.5-06 Ackley the LR mount will get me out to about 1300 yards. With the 25-06 it will get me out to about 1500.  The difference is in the internal adjustments in the scopes.  These mounts seem to do pretty good.  If I see the need to go any farther I'll add a set of Burris offset rings.

Not sure yet what I'm going to do with the Ultra as far as long range mount.  Probably just modify the factoy mount, all of this is in the works, just needs a little more thinking.
