Uphold right to protect our families, homesThere seems to be a lot of issues that our legislators continually claim the other party is not handling well. Basically, these are the same issues that they have labored over ever since America became a nation. I think most of them really don't care about the average American. They show great concern about the economy, taxes, war, equal rights, women's rights, the separation of church and state, etc. But my greatest concern is the safety and sanctity of my family, my home and myself.
I served during five theaters of operation in Vietnam and have worked as a law enforcement officer. I know first-hand about violence. I also know that a person with a firearm and trained in the proper use of a firearm has a much better chance of survival when attacked then if he were unarmed. Also, I know that the chance of police interdiction during the commitment of a crime is historically about the same as you or I winning the lotto.
Due to my war service (and age), I am not as able to protect the ones I love or myself from thugs using fists, clubs, knives or guns as I once may have been. Therefore I often carry a pistol and I consider any legislative action that has the potential to deny my right to carry a firearm as an attack on the safety and sanctity of my family, my home and myself.
I think it is in our best interest if we write our representatives and ask them to continue to work on keeping guns out of the hands of people who have proven they hold law and order in low regard but also to please work to protect our right to protect our families, our homes and ourselves.
