Savage 112 needs stock.
« on: November 23, 2005, 01:09:37 AM »
Hello from Georgia,
I have a Savage 112 .308 with a 26" fluted barrell that currently has a synthetic stock. After shooting it off and on for the past two years, I still have not become comfortable with the feel of the stock. I have come to really like the look and feel of a laminated stock and will be changing to one this spring. I would like to know what you guys consider to be the best stock for the best price. I am not looking to get out the cheapest, but I am not goung to spend more for the stock than I did for the rifle. I am also looking for the stock to be finished, and ready for a drop in fit.

Thanks in advance for all information.

     Dave

Boyd's

I really like the look and feel of the Boyd's Laminate stocks.  Fajen makes some good laminates as well.  I agree with you about liking the feel of wood better myself and I use it almost extensively.  Here's a link to Boyd's:

They have a pretty wide selection, the paste is only to their laminated varmint stock.  If you don't like that choice, search their site for te others they have.

Richards Microfit

Check out the stocks at Richards Microfit as well.  He will finish it for you if you are willing to pay for the work as will Boyd's.  The Fajen Walking Varminter on this rifle came from Midway, but it came unfinished.  A bottle of Arrow's Wood Finish costs like $8 and can finish several long gun stocks and will make you a very happy man.

If your interested in a Savage BV, - laminate, dual pillar, wide froearm, palm swell etc - call or e-mail Jim Briggs.  He's around $130 and they are truely drop in with no sanding, inletting or fitting required.

I had the similar issues with my 112, loved the rifle, not the stock.  I know you said you were partial to laminate, but you should take a look at Sharp Shooter Supply.  He makes excellent fiberglass stock for savage actions.  They are a lot less than a McMillan.  I have a Varmint/Tactical.  If feels great and even though it has a thin rubber recoil pad, it soaks up receoil better than the factory synthetic with a decelerator pad.  I want to fit a decelerator to this one.  I figure it will fell like a 30-30
