Ruger Customer Service!!!!
« on: October 27, 2005, 05:24:46 AM »
I have a Red Label 20ga. that my fat (100#) Lab sat on in the back of my truck and broke the stock. I called Ruger and ended up talking to a supervisor because of a discrepency on the price for a new stock. The supervisor said to send it in and she would try to get me the old price that is on their web site or it might even be warrantable. She said they would notify me on the price, and it would take 6 to 8 weeks for repairs
Well  I sent it in with a note explaining what happened. I even did a little drawing of how the gun was laying, and how much the dog weighed.
Two weeks later the UPS truck showed up with my gun wearing a brand new stock, and an invoice for "No Charge".
Alot of companys talk about standing behind their products, but I wonder how many would have done this? Keeping in mind that this gun was 7 yrs. old and I was very clear that it was my fault, I'd say Ruger went way beyond their responcibility on this one.
Thanks for reading this, Charlie

Ruger, Leuopold and RCBS are on my good list.  Each and every time I've delt with them I've been satisfied and never fail to advertise the fact to othes.  Lyman, on the other hand....[/i]

Isn't it nice to know that some companies still stand behind their products?  I've always liked Rugers.........and have owned several......heck, I still own a few............I like the design.......but I've always had to muck with them to get them to shoot..........hopefully, they'll work on quality and catch up to Savage in the trigger and accuracy departments.......

Ruger could have very easy charged you full list price for your stock, after all it was your dog that broke it and not a product defect.
Them doing this brings them up a notch in my book, They have always been a good firearm at a very good price and now good C.S. to boot :D

Ruger DOES NOT have a written warranty on their products. You got CUSTOMER SERVICE  not warranty. I must give Ruger credit on this matter, they really do take pretty darn good care of you on such matters as long as they feel you are being honest with them.

Yes Ruger is very good at taking care of their customers.  There are firearm companies out there that could take lessons from Ruger in this.  Lawdog

Thanks for the replys..
victorcharlie;    You'r so right about having to do alot of work to a new Ruger, and they seem to be getting worse as far as I can tell. But heck they all seem to be doing the same. My next rifle purchace will be a CZ.

rickyp;     Very well put. I have a ton of vices, but lying isn't one of them..

Greybeard;   You are absolutely right. Ruger has not offered a warranty for a few years now. They have an explanation on their web site and on the back of newer manuals that quotes  the Magnuson-Moss act (Public Law 93-637) bla-bla-bla. Guess lawyer triggers aren't covered by lawyer warrantees. But that's a subject for another post.
For now I am going to set back and enjoy the moment..
Thanks again, Charlie

I bought mostly Rugers for a lot of years........then, a while back, I bought a cheap, ugly, Savage package gun..............that thing shoots good, and right out of the box.........I sure hope Ruger, Remington, and Winchester improve as I'd sure like to carry a "pretty" rifle again........

It's kind of like a Moped.......fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you on one.........

I have been dreaming about a custom-engraved 12 ga. for a while now.

Your story just put Ruger at the top of the list.  I haven't seen Winchester or Browning even come close to that level of customer service.  Thank you for sharing it.

Time to save my pennies.  I spoke with Ruger a couple of days ago.  A custom-engraved Red Label 12 or 20 ga. will run me $3400.00.  I don't mind; it gave me an excuse to cancel that infernally invasive contraption known as my cell phone!!! :)  :-D  :-D  :)   Peace will now reign (because the phone ain't ringing!) inside the cab of my pickup once again, thanks to Ruger and their pricing.

…    You'r so right about having to do alot of work to a new Ruger, and they seem to be getting worse as far as I can tell. …

Was at the range today with the .257 Roberts and .300 Win Mag and both were shooting MOA, something I have come to expect from my Ruger rifles.  The .257 was made in ’89 while the .300 was new last Christmas.  My M77 MKII .22-250 VT is a couple years old and has put 4 shots into 0.5” at 200 yards.  My 7mm Mag was purchased in ’81 and has put 3 shots into 0.266” center-to-center, a group size less than one bullet diameter.  My buddy’s 7mm Mag is about 5 years old and shoots 0.4”.

The only work put into any of these rifles was to float the barrel and polish up the trigger.  Since I do this to all my centerfire rifles where possible, it’s hardly what I would call “alot of work”.

My limited experience with Ruger service has been outstanding.  I bought a used stainless .357 Mag Blackhawk and discovered at the range it had a misaligned cylinder.  Sent it to Ruger and they replaced the basepin for free, didn’t even charge return shipping.  My buddy had an older Blackhawk that needed the safety modification.  The fixed it for free and replaced the hammer spring for free while they were at it.  Again, no shipping charges.

Maybe I have just been lucky with Ruger products and service, but I don’t think so.

I agree with you completely.  Everyone complains about the "lawyer" trigger on Ruger rifles.  I know they are the pits but it's an easy fix.  Either do the polishing yourself or have a good gunsmith do the work or install a after market trigger which increases the value of the rifle.  Personally I consider them a non-issue.  Ruger rifles, on the whole, give excellent accuracy and Ruger’s Customer Service is one of the better ones out there.  This all adds up to excellent value for the money you spend.  Lawdog
