8 inch Siege mortar

This is one of three 8 inchers firing and they are awesome. They make a throaty boom and are very accurate.

100 yard aiming stake.

This is one of the 8 inchers aiming stakes.  It has been very dry in the area and only started to rain in the morning.  Only the surface of the ground was wet, it was dry underneath.  The balls tended to bounce out of the impact  hole and sit on top of the ground.  You can see how close they are to the stake.  Right ofter taking the his picture the 8 incher right next to this one hit the top of it aiming stake and took about a foot of the stake off.

Coehorn

It rained all day....we toured Sutler Row.   If I only hadn't bought that Turkish Martini last week....a Confederate coehorn would have went home with me.

DD, sorry if I seem very nosey but looks like the white paper on the tube has some description about the mortar.  Also looks like the last item may show a price of $1,000.  Do you recall if that was the actual ASKING price?
Thanks.  Blaster

Yes they were asking $1000. It is a full scale  24 PDR Confederate pattern coehorm mortar.

Blaster,
I think that the rest of the of the list is what comes with the mortar; balls , lanyard ect.  Looks like one of the West Bros. mortars. A very had to beat deal.

Of real interest to you all; there was an M1839 mortar near the left end of the line which was comptley machined. That would be startin with a 17"steel blank and with a trunnion of about 5" which was welded on.  sorry no pict's. This in the same as the original pc used with the tripod which is pictured.

I looked for you guys at the base of the tower at 12:30 and nobody was there. Because of the rain I didnt think to widen my search. Maybe I can meet you another time. ( I did see at least 2 of you walkin around)

There was some good cannon shooting on Sat. A least 5 teams shooting 5v's( 5 shots in the center ring). Mine wasn't one. Oh well there is always the next time.

I was there, just 15 minutes late...Had a new cannon shooting convert to indoctrinate , and then deal with early Friday out bound Washington DC traffic in a heavy rain storm, it was ugly!

The Machined gun is that Gilmores?

I choose not to go out Saturday because of the rain.  It was ugly. Sounds like we missed some hot shooting...5 V's wow!

No, the machined version of that gun belongs to the 2nd MD Lt.ART. He told me who turned it but I have forgoten. Seeing  that gun, my patner declared that to be a reason for a bigger lathe. That will be project #2913. Should I live that long.
The gun and gin belong to HARDAWAYS(SP?) Battery.
