Well Genius did it again.  A previous owner has engraved his name on the receiver of my "new" pump shotgun.  What are my options to minimize/remove "him"?

Time to take it apart and do some drawfiling and sandpaper polishing. Done carefully, you should be able to clean it up and after it's reblued it shouldn't be noticable. I just got to repair a nice Sako that somebody used a pipe wrench to try to remove the barrel. It was messed up pretty bad, but the only way to tell it now would be to compare the dimensions of an original to the one I worked on.

You didn't mention where the name was engraved on the receiver. Would it be possible to engrave a picture over the offending name?  Some fine stippling would do a lot to conceal the previous engraving.  Perhaps some sort of plating could be used to 'fill in' the low spots before the high spots were carefully sanded or polished off? Just ideas, I'm not a pro at engraving or gun-smithing.

Be careful.. I worked on an 1100 that was laid on a piece of wet carpeting in the back of a pickup overnight. The pitting was deep enough by the following morning that braw filing removed most of the serial number stamping. Sand paper will remove the last of the scratches and polish ready for bluing.
