If I use loose 777 in my Knight will the percussion cap system thats in it now light the charge? I looked at a 209 conversion for it but they are somewhat expensive. If #11 won't do it how about a musket cap? I used regular bp in it last year but getting a second sabot down the bore was not fun and a third was about impossible. If I need a second shot in the field I don't want to have to spitpatch between shots.

I use percussion caps to light off Triple 7 loose powder and generally have no problems as long as I don't forget the powder!!!!! You now how it is BS-ing with the next guy at the range and loose your train of thought?

Usually, if I light off a couple p-caps before loading the first time I'm set to go. I wouldn't touch #209 primers for anything.....as you must have heard the problems with breech plug crud rings, right? Incidently, the European percussion caps Dynamil Nobel are a little "hotter" than the American CCI variety.

I have tried to light that stuff off with every primer possibillity there is (large rifle , large rifle magnum, small rifle , small rifle magnum, 209's, musket, and #11's, I built breech plugs to hold them all). The best accuracy was obtained with the #11's. Go figure.

My Knight wolverine with a 220 grain Dead Center Sabot over 80 grains of 777 fffg lit by a #11 cap will shoot a ragged hole at 100 yards (.4" to be exact). There are many that now say the 209 primer is too hot to get consistantly accurate loads. I know I'm glad I didn't pay $60 for the conversion kit.

I took the 209 out of my Encore as well. I light it with the .25ACP conversion and a small rifle primer.

Don`t forget CCI now makes #11 Magnum Caps now, that is what I just bought after running out of regular CCI #11 caps, I am curious as to the ignition on Pyrodex on a side hammer Renegade. I had maybe 2 misfires with regular blackpowder out of tons of shots with the regular #11 caps, but the Pyrodex had a few misfires and some hang fires with the regular CCI #11 caps, I hope the #11 Magnum caps solve that, as I really like Pyrodex at times. I checked my supply of caps and I am running low so I will check out a couple of these other suggestions. I haven't had time to go to the gunshop or the range so I haven't tried 777 yet in my frontstuffer. I also want to try some of the newer bullets, last year I used Speer 300 gr .44 bullets in a Harvester sabot but from what I'm reading there are much better choices out on the market. I am chomping at the bit for some trigger time. :-)
