currently i use 100 gr (2 pellets) of 777 in my .50 omega....i bee reading a lot on this american pioneer powder and wndered if it's worth a try....and if so which is best loose powder...sticks or the pre-measured charges?

American Pioneer or the newer Goex Pinnacle are both ascorbic acid based powders as is my favorite Black Mag'3. The first two are available as ffg or fffg. Do yourself a favor and get the fffg as the ffg is too coarse and less consistent. Black Mag'3 figured this out long ago and do not even make it in ffg anymore. These powders work best in longer barrels with heavier bullets and should be seated firmly for best performance. The lack of fouling with these powders has to be experienced to be believed. I get good results with BM3 and am just starting to evaluate Pinnacle.

I have only tried AP in a revolver and a Rem700ML. The AP worked great in the Remington and was more accurate than the 777. Recoil was less with the AP over the 777 also.

John Johnson's powder review in the summer Blackpowder Hunting magazine included AP powder, it provided the the least velocity of all powders tested, some by a large margin, but shot the cleanest with very little residue left in the barrel after shooting. Using 65gr of FF powder in a round ball gun shooting 4 shot strings, average velocity for the powders tested was..

Goex............1255fps
Swiss............1638
Schuetzen.....1347
Triple 7.........1518
Pyrodex RS...1292
Pioneer.........1045

If Johnson had used the 3Fg APP his results would have been 10-15% better/Faster than the 2Fg :shock:

If you think its not fast enough, just add more powder to your load :wink:

This is the Best and most cost effective powder I've ever used.

And super Clean. :grin: 2 wet, and 2 dry to swab....that is when needed! I can fire over 30 rounds at the range with powerbelts between swabbing

I cannot believe Swiss got almost 400 fps faster average than Goex with the same load, how can that be? Jack.

I use 120 grains of AP FFG in my Omega Z5 with 348 grain Powerbelts. Very clean, I reload in the field with 3 777 pellets and the 348 PB. Both shoot to the same point of aim. I have no trouble loading the ffg...........2 does and 1 buck this fall.

have you guys found that it is not neccessary to clean immediately after your shooting session? I guess I'm asking if I can sight in and leave the barrel fouled say for a 2-3 day hunt without rust problems

I purposely left my T/C Renegade uncleaned for 3 days. The blued steel barrel looked like new with just a wet patch. No signs of rust at all.

I purposely left my T/C Renegade uncleaned for 3 days after a range session with APP. The blued steel barrel looked bright and shiny with just a wet patch. No signs of rust at all.
