My wife has about 100 chickens.Mostly heavy layers but some are exotics.We've had a monster skunk "hatch".Skunks are everywhere,in town,on main street,out in the country,everywhere.I've been called in to duty to protect the flock.Armed with 220's and cubbies I've singled handedly declared a holy skunk war.I had a quad yesterday morning about 100 ft from the house.I'm running a 75% catch ratio .Usually 3 skunks out of 4 traps.Some of these are sumo skunks.Been using Friskies cat food,started with Salmon flavor then switched to Whitefish and tuna.Been saving essence.These skunks are fat!!! I have the feeling coyote trapping is going to start out real skunky.I may have to advertise for giving instruction.

Almost every trip I have ade to our Augusta place I have killed a skunk or two,there are tons of em this year,also seems to be plenty of coyote pups up there.

I saw the vets office open at 06:30 this morning.Yesterday Pheasant season opened so he has skunky dogs,porcupined pups and probably sewed up a few who ran through fences.
Asa your so right,I've watched John Graham and Gary Jepson out on their lines and they both get all excited when they discover a catch.
Nonya just went through Augusta on my way Sheep hunting.

I've been on traplines for 63 years and have harvested thousands of animals. I still get a rush every time i'm following a drag hook trail and hear the trap chain jingle in the brush, hurrying over to see if its a fox, coyote, bobcat, coon or some rare catch. :grin: Ace

I still get excited with ever animal I catch.I've involved my wife in the skunk trapping.She gets up early to check the traps.Comes in the house with a big smile.She has changed from"Boy you really caught a big skunk/cat" to "We really caught a big skunk" I'm saving 3 ranchs close to home for her to trap this year.

I have noticed more skunks this year too. I saw 3 on the road this morning near a large bean field i trap....that made me smile cause i know there are 3 less that wont have the opportunity to mess up a yote, fox or cat set.

We used to have tons of skunks.They have gone the same way as our muskrats.I think the great horned owls,started on the skunks---after they helped do away with our rats.
