Need help preparing pronghorn for plaque mount
« on: October 07, 2005, 06:15:28 AM »
I put antlers on plaques rather than use taxidermists. I just got home from a Wyoming antelope hunt with a quality buck. I have done deer, elk, moose etc. but I know pronghorns don't have true antlers. How do I prepare the horns before mounting them on a plaque?

Maybe this will help: The skull of a pronghorn has two knife-like growths about 4 to 6 inches long. Each "horn" fits over one of these like the sheath of a knife.

My guess is that you can safely prepare the horns in the style of the Europeans.
