The Case for a .303 Handi rifle
« on: October 16, 2005, 01:40:07 PM »
After much reflection, and after considering the now somewhat extensive line-up of calibers available in the handi rifle, I feel I have arrived at the finalist as the next completely necessary caliber....I wish they had never dropped the 7x57 Mauser, and 35 Whelen, and the 7.62x54 Russian is long overdue given all the excellent surplus and new commercial loading available at ultra cheap prices and the fact that as a medium bore rimmed round it is taylor made for the handi.....However, the 303 British gets the nod as the next necessary....it is rimmed, is tapered for easy extraction, is a medium bore, has good killing power, ammo is available from nine million sources and it fits in between the varmit rounds, high pressure rounds and the 45-70.....and yes, I was a marketing major in college....fat load of good it ever did me, i drive a truck!....oh well, I love my guns!

While I agree with you on wanting to see the 303 Brit made available in a Handi..I must take a slight issue with some of you generalities..namely..

and the fact that as a medium bore rimmed round it is taylor made for the handi

How so..the only semi-rimmed cartridge that failed to eject was because of my own ignorance to cleaning the oil out of the bore..and to some faulty Weatherby Ammo that was replaced with new...or by using laquerd coated mil-surp ammo...which isn't the recomended ammo to use in our Handi's..

Not all of this ammo would work good in the Handi's...and I'm not sure what the 45-70 remark is about?

Other than that...I whole heartly agree...the 303 Brit would be nice..
