In the name L. Craig O'Gorman, what does the initial L stand for?

I was thinking Laverne but it didn't seem right. Why is it so many lure makers use an initial for their first name, E. J. Dailey, O. L. Butcher, S. Stanley Hawbaker and J. Curtis Grigg come to mind? :? Ace
