legal muzzle velocity
« on: October 22, 2005, 10:26:46 AM »
sorry all,

what is the nra muzzle velocity for 22 silhouette is  a feller at my club said you have to use standard velocity, the nra page says no special hot stinger loads,

the reason i ask is i bought some cci silhouette 22 s which are rated the same as minimags that are listed as hi velocity

i like to shoot alot and the cci silos shoot great out of my rig, also they group VERY similar to american eagle 40 gr high velocity  which are less than half priced fine for practice.

bottom line is are they legal for nra, i have only been shooting in club events but wanted to test the official competitions.

i will be ordering a nra book , but would like to know before i spend more on useless practice ammo

thanks

high velocity is legal.

hypervelocity is not.

i believe the high velocity rounds go to around 1200fps

hyper-velocity rounds are around 1400fps.

i know we have some experts stalking these halls that can better define this for you.

Dave is correct that high velosity is legal. However you may find clubs who do not allow the use of high velosity due to target damage. Our club is one who does not allow high velosity. We used to have a lot of damage especially on the rams (horns breaking off on cast targets). We started to really enforce the ammo rule a few years ago and we haven't lost a ram since. I know this discussion has been on here before, but if you do some lot testing you can find standard velosity ammo that will shoot in your gun.
