Your thoughts on remington 7400 semi-auto
« on: October 18, 2005, 12:08:02 PM »
Hey guys, I bought my remington 7400 (synthetic stock) in 30-06 last year from walmart for 400$, and I just want to know how everyone feels about this gun.

To be honest, I have never had any problems with it, I shoot about 70-80 bullets every 2 weeks in rifle ranges and I think it shoots good. Range that I usually play with are 100-300 yards. I have a cheap 50$ BSA 3-9x 32.

My primary question is, is there any other semi-auto rifles in the market that you guys know about that perform just as good as the 7400 (or ever better) with a price between 300-400 $ in 30-06 ? I am asking because I wanna buy my father a rifle this CHRISTmas

thanks guys

The 7400 is a great rifle. As far as another brand I havent seen a price on one in a while but Browning makes a great semi-auto called the "Bar". Either one should serve your father well.

I think the Browning BAR cost twice as much as the synthetic stock 7400. The Browning's are really nice!
I think my next rifle is going to be a 7400 Carbine 30-06, I'm gonna get the one with the wood stock and blue finish. I'll put a Leupold VX-II 2-7x28mm Ultralight scope on it!
"ROLL TIDE". . .Back To Back. . .Three In The Last Four Years "GO GIANTS"  "YANKEES"

I've got 3 BAR's. 7 mag, 270, and 308 and they are all great shooters. But, im getting interested in the 7400 carbine. Had an old 742 30-06 and i miss it. Ive heard mixed stories on the 7400 but i think im gonna find out for myself.

I've messeds with a bunch of them over the years and they all shot and functioned well with no problems. I bout one off the net, Auction arms in the summer, used and it shot just as well as my BAr. I only use factory shells in both rifles.
I think the Browning is the superior rifle but it is a little heavy. You can find them used on the internet in the 400 dollar range, bought two older models 1970's  and they both worked and shot fine. Auction Arms.com or Gunbroker.com
