I prefer the T38s, having been unable to find a T99 that was easy enough to operate. Nice conversion on that one. Ought to preform much like a .303.  :D

What sort of scope mount/rail has it got BTW?
I'm not aware that anyone actually makes one for it or the T99 or the T38.

Somewhere in my basement is a Weaver rail for an Arisaka. I just can''t find the swiveling rings to go with it.  :P

Slamfire, you're a rude, rude man.
Actually, a T38 in 6.5x50 holds more attraction for me.
With some nice light 120gn Nosler BTs it'd make a good roo and pig rifle.
Plus, allegedly, you can load them significantly hotter than they ever were for service rounds because the action is so strong.
I've heard more than one authority say that they can rival the 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer when loaded to their potential.

It'll probably be in saturday hopefully monday I'll have a range report. Provided necking down and fireforming 8x57 cases into 7.7x58 works.

Is the case head the same size?

Well... it sorta depends the japanese chamber deminsions can be all over the place. Its "supposed" to use a case head similar in size to 6.5x55 swedish
I'll find out when I get to fireform some cases.

They're virtually the same size anyway when it comes down to it.
Are the loads for the 7.7 hotter than .303 since the action almost impossible to kill?

My manual shows a slightly weaker 7.7 in relation to .303 but the two cartriges are so similar that the load data is practally interchangable 7.7x58 vs 7.7x56r.
Some of my better .303 loadings propel a 150 gr bullet at 2700 FPS for me that is plenty of horsepower  I  am hoping I can duplicate my good 303 loads in the Arisaka.

If the action is dramatically stronger and the 7.7 is rimless, usually reflecting a stronger design, why do they download the 7.7?
Does it have to do with the lackadaisical approach the Japanese had to chamber dimensions at times?
