Need hints on removing the front sight blade on 1895SS

I would like to install XO sights but I am unsure of how to go about removing the front sight blade to install the one in the kit.

I don't have a sight removal tool to pust out dovetailed sights. Can I use tools normally found in a garage or should I seek out a gunsmith?

Just use a piece of brass, wood, nylon or whatever and tap it out from left to right.  If you don't care about scratching the sight blade, use a punch.  That should do it.

If you have more than a passing interest in guns, sooner or later you'll want the correct tool for the job.

I have the Lyman "tapper". It is a hammer with three interchangeable heads (Brass, Steel and Nylon) along with a brass punch that's stored in the handle.

I've had my Lyman tapper for ten or fifteen yrs now, and it's been used countless times for drifting, or removing sights. You'll sure be glad you have one....I am.

I can't remember what I originally paid for mine, but at $13 bucks, it's cheap insurance you won't ding up a nice firearm.
