is techforce 97 over rated or have misleading specs
« on: October 24, 2005, 06:06:12 PM »
the 97 is rated at 900 fps in .177 cal but the review on their page only got as high as 689 and as low as 503 ...thats about 200 to 400 fps lower than advertised !!!seems either dishonest, unrealistic or needs a certian combination of moon-sun and stars alignment...leaves me questioning the product/ company either way.. I was really hyped on them because i've grown to give LAWDOG on here a great deal of respect and he seems to really like them.

click on link to review of 97 under the gun......i know all guns shoot slower than advertised because of special light weight pellets used for velocity ratingd ..but a 200 to 400 fps drop is one hell of a difference !!!

Pellets as light as 5.5 gr. in .177 caliber are used by most air gun manufactures for velocity rating tests.  And yes a drop of 200 or more fps. is normal when using such light weight pellets.  Many rifles rated for 1,000 fps. actually only get 800 or less fps. using those light weight pellets.  Where the air gun is manufactured has nothing to do with the accuracy of velocity ratings.  Lawdog

Really?
My Sheridan SS advertized 600fps and my chrono shows 585 to 610 fps .
I would suspect the basic honesty of a number of the airgun makers.

Most all pump up pellet guns will come very close to their advertised velocity.  The greatest discrepancy seems to be with springer guns(both pistols and rifles).  I believe it is due to them being the most popular for hunting/target shooting and everyone wants fastest one they can get.  My son in-law shoots an RWS 350M in .22 caliber(got it for Turkey hunting) and while itÂ’s fast it is no where near as accurate as the RWS M52 that I have in the same caliber and a bit over 150 fps. slower.  Lawdog

I really enjoy accurate airguns and in order to keep the best possible accuracy, diabolo pellets of any caliber or weight should be kept at or under 270 m/s ~ 886 fps.
