Effingham IL, range reopened!
« on: October 30, 2005, 04:23:58 PM »
"The Range in Effingham IL has been closed since March of this year because a bullet allegedly got off the property and plunked in to Lake Sara which is on the back side of our range. The board of directors of the club voluntarily closed the range and contacted the NRA . They sent a Range specialist out to access the range and he suggested that we build all the berms up to 20 feet high and install a baffle system that would not allow a stray bullett ( which we decided was probably an accidental discharge) to go over the berms. We built portable baffles to shoot behind in the prone position and permanent baffle to take care of offhand shooting and bench shooting. The range has now been re-opened and we had our first silloette match this weekend . We had a pretty good turnout considering there was not much advertizement and the baffles were not as big a pain as we expected. It is going to take some getting used to but we are glad to be shooting again. We are going to have another 40 round match Nov. 26-27 and Dec. 17-18 if anyone is interested in more imformation you can email me at ricmon @ one-eleven . net (remove spaces) or call Brad Smith at 217-857-3729.
Thanks, Rick "
