NEF SB2 .223 Accuracy Load....?????
« on: March 12, 2003, 03:32:46 PM »
Can anyone give me their accuracy load for this rifle? I've been loading several different loads and dont seem to be getting anywhere. The best Ive done is 2" at 100yds with 26.6 W748, 55 Nosler BT, oal 2.350 which is still .150 off the lands. It doesnt have the bull barrel either. Thanks, Mike

My standard .223 universal accuracy load is the 52 Sierra over 25 of H335, seated to 2.26" with a WSR primer. Case doesn't seem to matter.

If that doesn't work, the 53 Sierra flatbase gets tried. Never has failed yet. It's not real speedy, but if that really matters I get out a .22-250 anyway.

Had the same problem with mine, lapped the bore, lightened the trigger & pillar bedded the forend, non done any good! turned out to be the lockup wasnt bearing evenly. The rifle will now shoot very well with a variety of loads but does best with 2! the speer 52gr bthp & H-322 (fed 205 primer) & 35grv-max pushed with 2015.

Mike3132: I'm having good luck with AA2460 and H335 with a Win. case, 55gr. Blitz King and a 7 1/2 Rem. Bench Rest primer. I change from Rem. to CCI's and lost ground so a simple primer change may help. Watch your bullets I had some Rem bulk 50gr. that wouldn't shoot no matter what. How's your trigger pull, also check scope mounting, my rail had screws that bottomed befor it was tight. If you're shooting off of sand bags, remember put the front bag between mounting screw and the action. I get my best results under the hinge pin. If this is a new rifle it takes a few rounds for it to settle down and shoot it's best. Clean your bore well and thoroughly to avoid copper fouling, I recommend Wipe-Out by Paul Co. borecleanr@aol.com. These rifles can be quite accurate but you must do your part. Good Shooting!!

I have always had one favorite load that works very well in my 788 and also in my NEF. I put 24 grains of IMR 4895 behind a 55 grain soft point slug. Short range and long range accuracy is truly remarkable.

:D  Hey Mike, The one I had never would shoot worth a hoot.I could get maybe a 2" group every now and then but that was all!The way I fixed mine was to sell the thing. It has been the only rifle I have ever had any dealings with that I could not get to shoot a 1" or better group. My standard load for 223 is 21.5grs.IMR 4198,55gr.Serria BTHP,wwprimers, seated .010 of the lands. Good luck to ya and I hope some of this helps,I am CAL....
