Midway has williams receiver sights and fire sight sets on sale to fit marlin 336, 444, 44, and 1895 for $29.95.  I just got a set for my 444.  I haven't installed them yet, but intend to do so soon.

Howdy Montanan....

That looks interesting enough, but it sure seems like it'd be too far away from your eye for it to be any better than the standard rear notch sight. Do you have a receiver, or tang sight to compare it with.

Seems to me that there was a similar sight available for SKS rifles in the past that were too far from the eye like that.

Anyway, it's a nice looking setup.

If you havent' purchased the Williams yet, I'd like to take a moment to offer my insight. I have both the Williams 5D and foolproof receiver sights. The 5D is alright if you never have to move it after sighting in. The Foolproof, with the click adjustable windage and elevation is well worth the extra initial envestment. I wish I'd have done that on the 5D I have....!

That is exactly what a friend stated about those sights as well.  We are so used to using tang sights on our BPCR guns that it seems that is the only way to go with a Lyman Tang Sight #2 for the 336.

But right now its just a pondering

Just curious though:

Lyman Tang Sight #2 at Midway

I can't get the image to work for the Lyman #2 at Midway, but I seem to like the Original Lyman #2 style better that is offered at Brownells.

Montanan.....

That's the Lyman #2 tang sight on my 336cb you see in the photo. If I remember correctly, I got it from Brownells, but it has been 5-6yrs so I might be mistaken.

Anyway, I believe the Midway and Brownells Lyman tang sights are identical. I'm sure the pic you posted of the Brownells Lyman tang sight is the Winchester version with a longer base.....that's probably what's got you thinking there is a difference. If you know something I don't know, please correct me.

One thing about it, the Lyman is a good tang sight. There are those who won't think of it....and prefer the Marbles because of its windage adjustment. The truth of the matter is, once the front sight is drifted into allignment, the Marbles no longer has any advantage over the Lyman. I wouldn't blame anyone for getting the Marbles, but they are spending a lot of money to avoid a very simple drift of the front sight. I drifted mine in about 15 minutes at the range, and its never needed further adjustment.

I have a dealer friend checking price for me because the retail prices are vastly differant.  My son is waiting to see what he wants to do on his 336CC in 30-30.

The WGRS  series is the best for leverguns. They're tough enough to use without wings. The firesight front bead is a bit fragile though. Buy the stainless cutout hood from Marlin to protect it. Stainless will disappear better than the standard blued steel.

The problem with the Firesight is that the metal is brittle. The bead will break instead of bend.

my older 336 in 30-30 Ackley has had a Lyman side mount receiver sight for years.  While my eyes are not what they used to be, my son can hit beer cans at 100 yards all day long with this sight.
