The end of 2011 rifle season

Well our northern zone rifle is over,from what was seen during rifle season (lack of deer) I don't think I'll even bother to dirty up the muzzle loader for this weeks late ML season unless it's just to get together with friends and family for some fun.  Hopefully if we don't get dumped with alot of snow coyotes will be my next target.

I have been thinking the same thing.  Going to camp fpr one last weekend though.  More to get it ready for winter.

I can certainly attest that the entire 2011 season was ROUGH! As a matter of fact; I took it as an omen going in when that freakishly early September frost (in 6A) killed my (new & experimental) buckwheat food plots.  Let's just say that when it went from waist high lush and ready to seed - to bent over brown dead in one night, I spent many a day on stand wishing I'd have stuck with the turnips. Anyway, as usual and before that happened to the buckwheat - I brush hogged and mowed a few patches. So I did have a few does and dinks hanging around. But, I never did see anything bigger than the late season six point I took in the picture.

It is not so unusual for a September frost.  In fact I expect it in 6a. But it was a freaky season for sure.  I am thinking I may go over to camp just to see how things are.

Spending time at camp in the winter seems to be relaxing. Maybe take a hike and see if the deer ever showed up now that the season is over. Nice buck 30-30,until a couple days ago I haven't seen a live buck,I had a 8" or so spike come out behind the house and he comes to the bird feeder. It's a wonder I don't get a ticket for that,if that happens so be it.
