Encore & Factory Ammo
« on: November 03, 2005, 10:41:58 AM »
I just ordered a factory Encore 24" 308 Win bbl last night along with all the other goodies to go with it. My next move is ammo. I'll shoot factory ammo for now and probrably go with a 150gr bullet.

I would normally just start reloading from the get go, but deer season is only a couple weeks away and time is getting scarce.

Anybody have any recommendations on factory ammo? What factory loads work good for you?

Thanks

I've not had a problem with anything ~150 gr.  I'm using 150gr Remington CoreLoct's from Walmart this year and have been getting 1 1/2 - 2" groups out of it (those where hurry-up shots <5 seconds).

It's the heavy stuff that gives me trouble... namely the 180gr Nosler Partition Federal Vital Shok.  I couldn't seem to do better than a 4" group with them (always from a flier).  I did shoot some 165 grs last year but it was before I scoped it so I can't really tell you much about that.  I might try it next year.

I have a 24" 308 barrel as well and the 150gr coreloks shot under 1" at 100 yards.  I just picked up 3 boxes of the new federal Fusion 165gr I hope they shoot just a well.
