Has anyone tried moving there bipod stud to the rear of the forearm, just ahead of the receiver? I was thinking this would offer more consistent shooting in the field as it does when I move my rest back toward the receiver off the bench?

Yeah, I still have them mounted toward the rear. Both my 223 and 30-06 barrels shoot great with it, just like when I have a rest under the reciever.

I have the Choate Varmit setup, and you can use the mount that slides into the fore end either way, with stud at front or rear. Mine shoots best with stud at rear............
