Sighting in a Side Kick - How would you do it
« on: October 26, 2005, 10:46:54 AM »
Sighting in a sidekick?

Using 2 50 pyrodex pellets (100 grains total)
side kick - blue/wood 26" barrel
250 XTP hornaday HP in mmp short black sabots
shooting open sights

Question:

Do I sttart at 50 yards or 25 yards. Would like to sight in (zero) at 100 and be accurate all the way from up close and personal to about 150 yrds.
Average shot would be about 50yrds

I figure 1.5" high at 50 would put me on at 100 and about 1.5-2in low at 150.

To move point of impact up, I move the rear sight up? Is that correct.
Any other advice? I probably won't vary the load since I will not be using loose powder. Also, I may change bullets to the 300 XTP but the 250's seem to be recommended all over the net.

Let me know your thoughts.
They would be appretiated.

Sounds to me as if your all set to go to the range. And yes, you move the rear sight the way you want the bullet impact to to go, If moving the front sight, move it the opposite way you want the bullet impact to go. Good Luck and have fun.  I would suggest starting at 25 yards, just for a couple of shots at least, especially if your shooting it for the first time, just to get it somewhere on the paper and hopefully somewhat near the center of the target....<><....

I sighted mine in at 25 yards first. It gives you a bunch of confidence to start. Jack.

You know this is what I like about this site...  Good common sence answers to questions.  Yes starting out at 25 yrds will do you a world of good before moving to 50, then 100 yrds.  After your gone shooting at 100yrds just for kicks go back to 25 and its like WOW this is close.  Most of my deer kills are between 25-50 ydrs.
