Got my second deer today with my Encore M/L
« on: October 22, 2005, 04:37:49 PM »
I got a small doe today with my Encore M/L. I used a 195 gr. PR duplex sabot and 90 gr. of triple7. Two deer fell to this set up in the past 3 days. Also busted a fat ground hog and it is going to get mounted.  :D  :-D

Way to go Redhawk! I've seen 8 does in the last 2 days, but looking for a buck first. I got 2 does during KS BP season, so I have plenty of venison for the moment.Turned really cold, suppose to have the first freeze tonite, may get the bucks aroused, ( I hope!)

My first deer was a small 5 point. I have to get 2 doe's in Muzzloader season before I can get another buck with my Muzzleloader. I hunt in Maryland on a lease and getting 2 doe's after a buck is Maryland law. I also hunt in my home State of Delaware, but past up several doe's this year so far. I want a big buck for the wall, but it has to be bigger than my 10 point I got last year.  :D

you did better then I did. opening morning of MD's early M.L. season I was watching a small spike about 100 yards for about 30 minutes, when  he started wo come my way. I put down my binos and picked up my pistol just to have him disappear, about 20 minutes latter a nice doe came with in 20 yards and stoped. I took the shot and flintched and closed my eyes, I know a very dumb thing to do but i did it, I was able to find the point the bullet struck the ground just under where she was standing

I don't feel real bad my hunting partner shot 3 times opening day and missed all 3, however he did shoot 2 times the last day of buck/doe season and took 2 very very small does (?)
I thought it was gona stop raining today but looking at the weather it isnt going to and it will be raining the next few days I am off, so I am about ready to go in the woods and get wet and cold :(  and try for a doe of my own

I have hunted 3 days in the rain this year. Rain gear and good boots. It was raining the day I took my small doe. Sometimes we just have to man up.  :D

Congrats on the 2nd deer.  I've taken one doe with my bow and passed on a few with my encore mz.  Our gun season opens in a couple of weeks and the rut will be in full swing!!

You guys have got to be kidding about "manning up" to hunt in the rain.  I live to hunt in a drizzling rain!  I see and kill more bucks then than probably any other time.  You just have to be well equiped with the proper gear to have success.

Continued Hunting Success!

Smoky, I also like to hunt in the rain and drizzle. I just dress for the occasion. Like you said, I have killed a lot of deer when other are sitting by the fire at home.  :-D  The manning up was not for me, but those that don't want to hunt in the rain. I also like cold days. I live for hunting.  :D

I finally got a deer with my 15 inch 209x50.
It was the last day of Md's early M.L. season and close to the end of hunting hours. I got out of my stand a little early because I could not see well in the thick woods I was in. I go to the edge of a field that I follow to get to trail I made to my stand, Just as I reach the field my buddy calls me on my Nextel and yells hey, did you hunt today? I told him I was until you scared off all the deer. after this I thought it would be best to just go back to the truck. When was walking along the field at the wood line I saw a doe in the field about 40 yards from me, she was looking at me trying to figure out what I was. when I saw her I stoped and looked behind her to make sure it was safe to shoot and looked to make sure it was a doe so I could shoot. after this I put the scope up and made sure it was really a doe. once I knew for sure I took the shot and put the bullet trough her heart.
I made the 40 yard shot free hand  and unsupported (No rest)  and from a  standing position, Not the shot I wanted but the only one I could get.
