Author Topic: CVA Kodiak,,,need load help (Read 590 times)

I just got a new CVA Kodiak in .50 cal. (I know it's not the best but with limited funds you get what you can get. ) Anyone have one that can give me some help finding a good load for it? I'm not going to shoot more than 100 grains of powder. And would like to shoot sabots,,just not sure what bullet weight I need. Most shots will be in the 100 to 150 yrd range. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had good success with the XTP 240s (Thompson Center markets them as Mag Express Sabots) and the TC 250g Shock Waves. I got good accuracy with the XTPs and good performance on deer. I got better accuracy with the Shock Waves but have yet to shoot a deer with them. I tried 245g power belts but couldn't get a good group with them. Your milage may vary.

Hey coffee don't apologize for the CVA Kodiak. I own one and like it a lot. Very user freindly. I have it in 45 caliber and shot it today. I am using the 275 power belts HP's and Pointed with 110 grains of loose 777 and remington 209 muzzel loading primer. 100 yards grouping two to two and a half inches and barrel was dirty, because I had to adjust my new scope to hit on. I love the gun I shot 120 grains of 777 and 110 is where I settled. You do get some blow by on the scope and in the action with this much powder. Cabela's for $189.00 with camo stock and nickel barrel how can you go wrong. Bought a 1.75 x 5 x32 bushnell for it love the scope also. It will kill deer at 100 yards with no problems, that's what it's all about isn't it?

Hey.I'm new to the forum.I was wondering what Bushnell scope you bought?I am looking for one for my CVA Staghorn in 45 cal.Any help appreciated.

hilltop, I bought the Bushnell Trophy 1.75x5x32. It's very bright and I can adjust it for my eyes. I wear glasses and most scopes give me trouble except for the scopes with the eye focus piece, which this has. I liked this scope so much, I put one on my Marlin 336 also. It's a rifle scope not a shotgun scope. Bought it from cabelas. I really like my CVA kodiak inline. Bought that on sale from cabela's for $189.00. Camo stock and nickel finish.
