I use gland lures quite a bit.I make a flat set with a tiny lure hole made with my cable stake driver tool.If I use fox or coyote gland lure,to me it seems not to scare away critters.I only use enough lure to cover the tip of a twig.I have found that coyote urine does tend to shy away fox.I find that if I use too much gland lure,it tends to be non-productive for awhile. It's like the set has to calm down a bit.
